Thirty-six students from Lincoln-Way West attended the SWSC Journalism Conference at Carl Sandburg High School with their sponsor, Jennifer Bromann-Bender, to hear presentations from an assignment editor, and TV, radio, and print news reporters. Billy Kolacek won third place in the photography category for his “Soccer Playoffs” photo and Annabelle Fazekas won third place in the features category for her article titled “A Freshman’s First Year.” Annabelle also won in the news category last year.
After breakfast, the students first joined the other six schools in the conference for a panel discussion in the auditorium. This was followed by three breakout sessions. A favorite session this year was from James Sears, an overnight news reporter for WGN.
