Lincoln-Way West clubs, departments, and activities participated in the 17th year of Holiday Sharing! Mrs. McAvoy, the school social worker, oversees the program and distributes families to different groups. In Holiday Sharing, each group is assigned to a family that is in need. Members are in charge of shopping for one member in the family by themselves or with another club member. Some members, depending on the size of the club and the size of the family, may have a few people per family member. And some clubs may have students sign up for or bring specific items. After each person in the family is accounted for, students and sponsors go out and shop for things the family members have put on a list of wants and needs. They bring back their items to their sponsor to be wrapped by students and then given to the families so that they can enjoy Christmas morning! Some clubs may have students wrap the gifts they purchase.
The West Gazette was thrilled to participate in Holiday Sharing this year! The group was assigned to a large family. Members, along with book club and library aides, quickly jumped in to extend generosity this holiday season. Almost as soon as Mrs. Bromann-Bender sent out the list, there were students volunteering to buy a variety of items. For students that didn’t buy for a specific person, they were able to contribute in other ways. Some bought gift cards for necessities like food or gas or donated miscellaneous items like toys or clothing.
The West Gazette was excited to be able to help others during such a special season. Warriors are kind, and this was the perfect extension of our kindness during the season of giving!
