The Chicago Bears extended their outstanding win on Sunday with a win over the Cleveland Browns. The Bears record moves to 10-4. The last time the Bears had a 10-4 season was in 2010 and ended up with a record of 11-5 and reaching the NFC Championship game. Will this season be the same or different?
This season feels different for the Bears, though, under new head coach, Ben Johnson. Quarterback, Caleb Williams, spoke with ESPN about Johnsons coaching style and he had nothing but good things to say, “Getting coached like that and being pushed, the whole team seeing me being pushed like that. He set the standard. It’s our job to level out and be that standard.” Williams isn’t the only guy to have good words for Johnson. Cornerback, Kyler Gordon, had this to say about Johnson while talking to Chicago Sun-Times, “His ability to relate to all the players and get everyone to feel where he’s coming from and his energy is just different from what we had the last three years- very much so. Once you get the rest of the team and they see his concept with his energy behind it we all believe. No one can be half in, half out.”
There seems to be more confidence throughout this Bears team unlike what we’ve seen the last few years under former Bears head coach and now Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus. Matt Eberflus tore the team apart and now Ben Johnson is picking up the pieces and placing them in the right places. Although the team’s success is not just solely on Ben Johnson. Defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, plays a key role in success as well. The Bears’ defense ranks #27th in the NFL, which seems disappointing, but it ultimately has not been. The defense is 1st in arguably the most important aspect of the game, takeaways. The ability to force the opposing offense to turn the ball over to the defense. This has given the Bears more opportunities to score. Safety and 10-year veteran, Kevin Byard, has 6 interceptions, and he has led the team just ahead of, linebacker, Tremaine Edmunds, who has 4 interceptions. The Bear’s offense has been effective, ranking 5th in total offense, 7th in points per game, and 2nd in rushing yards per game. Compared to 2024, where the offense ranked 32nd and was dead last in the league in almost every offensive aspect, this has been an amazing start for the Bears. A lot of credit goes to the leader of the offense, Caleb Williams. He has taken a step forward since last year and is on pace to be the first Bears quarterback in history to have 4,000 yards.
In other words, the future is very bright for the Chicago Bears, and maybe this year, the Lombardi Trophy will end up in Chicago.
