I agree with the government’s decision to stop making pennies, and I have a few reasons explaining why this is a good policy. First, pennies cost more to make than they are even worth. That means the government spends more than one cent just to make one penny, which doesn’t make much sense. When we stop producing pennies, the government could save a lot of money and use it for things we actually need, like schools or roads.
Another reason is that barely anybody uses pennies. In my experience, when I get change at a store, the pennies usually end up in my pocket, then in a jar at home, and then I forget about them forever. Some people just throw them away or leave them at the store. It seems to me that most people don’t like counting pennies because it takes too long, and when you drop one, it’s almost not worth bending down to pick it up. Stores and people are using cards and online payments more anyway, with many being cashless, so pennies just aren’t that important anymore.
In my opinion, it was a good decision to stop producing pennies.
