With only a few weeks left in the 2024-2025 school year, Warriors are beginning to prepare for summer. But before we look to the future, let’s look back on memorable moments in the last eight months.
In August, LWW started the school year on the 20th. On the 23rd, we kicked off our fall sports season with community night.
September was an eventful month for the Warriors, starting with the 6th. Many students attended the football home opener, which was a win for West. Before the game was the 2024 color throw. On the 16th, LWW hosted the Homecoming Olympics, which was a huge success. 2024’s Hoco Olympics was the largest in the school’s history, with 110 teams registered. The 19th was the annual Class Clash assembly, with representatives from each grade competing in 70s themed competitions. September 20 was the homecoming game, with Warriors in the stands wearing disco outfits. On the 21st, 1,650 students attended our homecoming dance, which was Disco Nights and Dazzling Lights themed.
West began October with a football game on the 4th, which was the first ever Goldout. The 17th-19th included performances of our fall play, Rosie the Riveter. The 30th marked the release of the first issue of The West Gazette.
November was a calm month, with just a final exam review night for freshmen on the 18th, and the second issue of The Gazette coming out on the 26th. That was also the day that Warriors attended assemblies with the Will County Sheriff’s department to discuss school safety.
In December, West prepared for finals and winter break. On the 9th through the 17th, students participated in spirit days like Cozy Countdown (pajama day), Candy Cane Day, Holiday Sweaters, Flannel Friday, and Merry Monday. On the 12th and 13th, many Warriors signed up to spend their advisory with comfort dogs to ease finals stress. A new issue of The Gazette was released on the 16th. The 18th-20th were final exams, which were followed by winter break wrapping up the month.
During winter break in January, our marching band participated in the Rose Parade on New Years’ Day. Warriors returned to school on the 7th. On the 24th, writers from The West Gazette traveled to the SWSC newspaper conference.
On February 6th and 7th, the West Theatre Company presented their senior-directed showcase for the winter play. Also on the 7th, West was visited by Daniel ‘Rudy’ Ruettiger for an inspirational presentation in the morning. The 18th-21st prepared for the Winter Dance with a spirit week, including Student/Faculty Flip, Anything but a Backpack and Rhyme without Reason. On the 19th, West welcomed future Warriors at the class of 2029 open house. The 22nd was the Winter Wonderland Dance, which 900 students attended. February 26 began the pickleball tournament, with 64 teams participating.
Recently in March, the Spring issue of The Gazette was released on the 26th, and students got to watch championship games from the March Madness brackets during their PE classes on the 27th.
That has been the school year so far at Lincoln Way West. Now we can focus on making it through the end of the school year and enjoying summer break!
