The Homecoming Olympics 2024 was full of life and excitement, as well as many highs and lows. According to most students, the ultimate low was the Tug of War. As occurred in previous years, many teams have been unfairly matched with others, resulting in an immediate loss. This view has been shared by many Lincoln-Way West students who believe there should be more fairness in the games. Nonetheless, the HOCO Olympics are always a big sensation no matter the activities. For those who did not attend or may not remember, the events in this year’s Olympics were the following: Disco relay races in which participants must pair up with another in their group and walk back-to-back to and from their sponsor, another that required maneuvering with an inflatable disco ball between their legs. Plus, what seemed to be the most riled up event, defrosting a frozen t-shirt to put around your team’s captain. Everyone had different strategies; some smashed the shirt onto the track, others got their tug of war practice in, and some even tried using the power of friction to thaw the ice. In each team’s defense, not all garments had the same amount of ice in them. Many were easily able to unfold their shirt and toss it onto their captain, while others were dealing with literal bricks of ice. Regardless, the audience seemed to enjoy watching as the students struggled and shouted new tactics to one another. Yet, the night was ended perfectly with the gorgeous firework show provided by our school’s Student Council. Bright colors lit up the sky as teammates took pictures, relaxed with friends, and made new memories as music sounded throughout the duration of the show. In the end, there is one thing we call all gather from the Homecoming Olympics of 2024: New memories to reflect on and remember for the rest of our lives.
