How long have you worked at West? How long in the district?
I began teaching in 1987 and started working at Lincoln-Way for the 1990-1991 school year. At that time there was only one Lincoln-Way. All juniors and seniors in the district and freshmen and sophomores from New Lenox and Manhattan went to Central. freshmen and sophomores from Mokena and Frankfort went to East. Because I taught only freshmen and sophomores, I had to travel between the 2 schools. When East and Central became separate schools, I taught at Central. When West opened, I then chose to come to West.
3.What is your favorite memory of working at West?
I don’t have any one specific memory. My favorite memory is that every day I get to say hello to everyone.
4.Why do you like working at West?
The staff and students at West are truly some of the best people that I have encountered in my career.
5.What is something that students would be surprised to find out about you?
I am actually more of an introverted person, but my belief in the importance of education and teaching has made me learn to be more outgoing and extroverted.
6.Do you have any embarrassing teaching moments you are willing to share?
You can’t teach high school for as long as I have and worry about embarrassing yourself. I have always embraced my quirkiness and social gaffs that I sometimes make. I am who I am.
7.Why is West the best?
No one slips through the cracks here. It is like Hogwarts. You can always find help and support when you need it.
8.What is your favorite dish from the cafeteria?
Walking Taco with lots of Jalapenos.
9.If you worked at West the first year the school opened, what are your memories from that year?
There were no seniors so the halls were not crowded.
10.What sports or activities do you sponsor? What do you like about them? Why do you do it?
I am the sponsor of the Speech Team and Gamers Club. At West there is something for everyone, and I am happy to be a part of that idea.
- What was the most fun you have had or a funny memory you have had at West?
VOCAB! Every day I get to spread vocab joy to students who are hungering to improve their vocab and learn new words and ways of memorizing. Finding songs to match the theme of the lesson for the day!
12.If you are retiring, what will you miss about West?
In 5 People the Blue Man states that, “We are all connected.” I will dearly miss the connections to my colleagues and students.

13.Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself, teaching, the future, or working at West?
One of my favorite quotes that I put up on my board at the beginning and ending of school is: It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the end. This has been a wonderful journey. I have played my front nine and have loved every minute of it. Now it is time for me to play my back nine.
