With a new year comes new trends in everyday fashion. In 2025, there were a lot of polka dots, leopard and cheetah print, as well as camouflage in various colors. I have no doubt that those fashion statements will transfer over into the new year, but it is also likely that they will eventually be replaced. Stores are already changing the type of clothing that they offer in store. Hollister, for example, has shifted their pieces to mirror the clothing from the early 2000s. With lots of baby doll tops, low-rise jeans, and fur lined hoodies, it provides a glimpse of what people will likely be wearing in the new year. With that being said, here are my fashion predictions for 2026.
1.Low-rise jeans with fun patterns and lace. Low-rise jeans are already in fashion with many stores getting rid of their high-rise options. With the increasing interest in low-rise, having patterns on the pockets or even on the leg of the pant could be an elegant addition to the piece.
2. Big sunglasses. Having big sunglasses holds more or a benefit than just following a trend. These sunglasses provide full coverage from the sun and will protect one’s eyes much more than smaller frames. I personally own a pair of big sunglasses, and I greatly appreciate the protection they provide while I am driving on a sunny day.
3. Lace tank tops. Following the idea of 2000s fashion, lace tops seem to be making a comeback. Whether they’re used as a layering piece or by themselves, they can easily elevate any look. Lace tops are also very versatile with many different patterns. These tops have already made their appearance in stores such as Hollister, Pacsun, and American Eagle.
4. Fold over yoga pants. Like the lace tank tops, these types of yoga pants have also started gaining popularity. They are commonly sold as a set with a matching long sleeve to complete the look. The yoga pants come in multiple different styles such as flare and baggy. To match with the rest of the rising trends, these pants are commonly sold either low-rise or mid-rise.
5. Ballet flats/heels. People have begun wearing these in public already. They come in various styles and almost every color one could think of. I often see them paired with jeans or skirts depending on the weather and occasion. A new gym shoe variation of the ballet flat has surfaced; however, I do not anticipate them to become more popular than the everyday flats.
6. Zig-Zag headbands. Many people have already begun wearing these headbands. They come in many different colors, but a popular pattern I have been seeing is the cheetah print. Although they have been becoming more popular, I do not think that they will be favorable the entire year. Instead, I anticipate that they will be replaced with another type of headband along the way.
With many different trends surfacing for the new year, previous fashion statements from earlier decades are bound to make a comeback. Will you take part in the fashion trends?
