Senioritis… be careful not to catch this infectious disease
As graduation approaches, the inevitable feeling of “senioritis” affects high school seniors from many places. The overwhelming sense of laziness and lack of motivation to complete their assignments hits as the year winds down. Procrastinating on homework, shopping for dorm decorations, discussing after-prom plans, and daydreaming about the summer ahead are all symptoms seniors may have because of senioritis. Experts say that though this catchy term is light-hearted, it is real and should be taken into consideration. The excitement of graduation blinds the stress of AP exams and the looming college checklist; that is why motivation dwindles as seniors approach this portion of their lives. A survey by Omniscient revealed that 78% of high school seniors in the United States experience senioritis. Teachers’ comments and concerns over students’ slipping grades and attention spans plummeting reveal their worry for their students. Senioritis should not warrant worry, but is instead a rite of passage for many seniors. That being said, it is crucial that seniors remain focused on their studies until the end. As graduation is nearing the corner, it is important that seniors recognize that their final grades really matter to college admissions and scholarship opportunities. It only takes a little bit of drive and determination to overcome senioritis and to walk that stage on a strong note.
