The Covenant series has it all. It has gods, half-bloods, a class system, a love triangle, revolution, fate, and star-crossed lovers. Alexandra ‘Alex’ Andros is the main character of the series, and she is far from the average teenage girl. The Greek gods are real, and, for the most part, hand off. However, many years ago, their demigods had kids and spawned the Hematoi, who created their own world inside cities called covenants. Their world is separated by a class system in which pures (the offspring of two demigod’s children) are at the top of the society and the halfs (the children of a pure and a mortal) are at the bottom. Pures use this divine agent in their blood to control the elements. However, when a pure consumes the divine agent, they become addicted and turn into these creatures called daimons and have to kill pures to get more. The only people who can recognize daimons are halfs. Inside this society, halfs have two choices: go into servitude or become either a guard or sentinel. Guards protect the pures and sentinels hunt daimons. Overall, the series has a good plot and characters. I really appreciated all the pop culture references throughout the book, as well as how relatable the main character is. She’s a half-blood but still a 17-year-old girl who is far from perfect. Overall, this series was a really good and interesting read.
