Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, but what people look forward to the most is the food. Fifty Lincoln-Way West students were surveyed about their plans for visiting family and friends and eating Thanksgiving food on November 28. 52% of the students who responded will be visiting with relatives and 36% will be hosting the holiday at their own home this year. Only a few others will be going to a restaurant or traveling out of state.
As for food, 80% of students do not like cranberry sauce and no one selected this food as their favorite. The most loved part of the Thanksgiving meal is mashed potatoes with 12 responses followed by rolls with seven votes. There was a tie for the third most popular part of the meal; Pasta or lasagna, pie, and ham all received six votes. Although they received less interest, some students responded that their favorite foods for Thanksgiving are stuffing and green bean casserole. Mac and cheese had a write-in vote, and one student does not like any Thanksgiving food at all. Unfortunately, the poor turkey is one of the least favorites of the meal.
What else do West students have to say about Thanksgiving? Two students commented that they have so many relatives at their celebrations that they don’t even know who they all are. But Anna Casner reminded us about the true meaning of the day. “Thanksgiving is a holiday to give thanks, but we should be thankful for all we have every day!”
