Do High School Students Still Trick or Treat? According to The West Gazette survey, they do. 52 West students answered questions about trick-or-treating and 43 responded that they still trick-or treat. Only one respondent said he or she takes their siblings. That means 81% of high school students at West get dressed up and go door to door in the New Lenox and Manhattan neighborhoods in search of free candy. Only three students said they stay home to hand out candy.
What are these students looking for in their candy bags? Chocolate seems to be the favorite candy with Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kats, and Snickers taking the lead. Other popular choices are Dots, Butterfingers, M&Ms, Twix, Sour Patch Kids, Milk Duds, Sweet Tarts, Skittles, Laffy Taffy, gummy candy, 100 Grand bars, Baby Ruth, Mike & Ike’s, Nerd Clusters, and Airhead Sour Strips.
Where are our Warriors going? When asked what neighborhoods were best to trick-or-treat in, most teenagers reported they either go in their own neighborhoods, to their friends’ neighborhoods, or some even go further to Frankfort or other neighborhoods for the king size bars.
What are they wearing? There is certainly a variety of unique clever costumes this year. West students report to be going as Fancy Nancy, a pirate, a police officer, Ferris Bueller, and even Alvin and the Chipmunks. Some other fun ones were Veronica Sawyer from Heathers, Spiderman, a rapper, a minion, a party animal, monkey, Batman, Spider-Punk, a mummy, Cinderella, and so many more.
What else do West students have to say about Trick-or-Treating? Several expressed a wish for dressing up at school. Others commented about why teenagers should still go trick-or-treating. “Watch out for tricks!” “Free candy!” “Never too old to have fun!” “We still enjoy trick-or-treating!” “Getting free food does not have an age!” “Just put the candy in the bag, bro! At least we aren’t getting in trouble.” “Have fun! You’re still a kid!” “There shouldn’t be people judging teenagers for going trick-or-treating. We still want to have fun before we have to grow up.”
These results were even recently reported on the radio program 101.9 The Mix. Have fun trick-or-treating this year.
