Movies are marvels of cinema, from their breathtaking visuals, stunning locations, and amazing use of practicality and CGI, but have you ever wondered how much money a movie makes? Well, here are some of the best grossing movies of the mid 2000s, including the highest grossing movie ever, some of my personal favorites, and the highest grossing films of 2005 and 2006 because those are the years this year’s seniors were born.
Avatar (2009)
I have never seen this movie before, but from what I know, it was the highest grossing movie ever created.
The movie took four years to create. This movie had a gargantuan box office of 2.923 billion and it had a budget of 237 million. Avatar made a jaw-dropping profit of 2.686 billion.
*Fun fact* Many animal noises heard in the film were recycled noises from Jurassic Park (1993), most prominent, the T-Rex and Velociraptors.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
I have only seen one of the Harry Potter movies before, but from what I hear, people say that it is one of the greatest franchises of all time.
This film grossed a box office of 896.8 million dollars and had a budget of 150 million dollars. The total profit was 746.8 million dollars.
*Fun fact* The director, Mike Nevel, was never aware that one of the actors, Alan Rickman, had donned black contact lenses for the role of Snape. It wasn’t until one day, when Nevel complimented the shade of the actor’s eyes, he popped one of the lenses out.
*Fun fact 2* A practical dragon that could emit real fire with the assistance of CGI and practical elements was created partially from the Basilisk puppet from the second film.
Batman Begins (2005)
I am familiar with this movie and the trilogy. It is one of the most renowned Batman movies ever created.
This movie grossed 373.7 million dollars and had a budget of 150 million dollars. It had a profit of 223.7 million dollars.
*Fun facts* The bat suit that Christian Bale donned for the role of Batman weighed a staggering 40 lbs. The Batcave set measured 250 feet long, 120 feet wide and 40 feet high. Christian Bale disliked being in the bat suit, as it caused him to feel claustrophobic.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans’s Chest (2006)
I have never seen this movie, but it is the highest grossing film of 2006.
This film grossed 1.066 billion dollars, and it had a budget of 225 million. The profit came to 841 million dollars.
*Fun fact* Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest became the third film in history to reach one billion dollars. Johnny Depp, who played Captain Jack Sparrow, had a stunt double, Tony Angellotti, who sustained major injuries while performing a stunt during filming.
Cars (2006)
This is one of the most cherished films the world has ever seen. Cars held the reputation of being the highest grossing car-oriented project for three years.
This movie grossed an amazing box office of 462 million dollars and had a budget of 120 million dollars. The film made a profit of 342 million dollars.
*Fun facts* The frames for the movie took 17 process hours to accomplish. Paul Newman, the actor who portrayed Doc, passed away two years after the film was released. Lightning McQueen’s number was supposed to be 57 in honor of the director John Lasseter’s birth year, 1957.
Now that we have reviewed the highest grossing movies, here are some of my personal favorite movies.
Jurassic Park (1993)
This is one of the movies that revolutionized the film industry.
Jurassic Park had a record-shattering box office of 1.058 billion dollars and had a budget of 63 million dollars. It had an outstanding profit of 995 million dollars.
*Fun facts* Jurassic Park remained in theaters for over one year. The T-Rex animatronic weighed a horrifying 15,000 pounds. One thing I found surprising is that for an alternate version of Jurassic Park, Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the actors considered for the role of Alan Grant.
King Kong (2005)
This is a remake of a remake of the original.
This film grossed an astounding box office of 556.9 million dollars and had a budget of 207 million dollars. It made a profit of 349.9 million dollars.
*Fun facts* King Kong’s roar was a lion’s roar played backwards at half speed. It took a grueling 18 months to create the CGI for the Empire State Building.
Godzilla vs Kong (2021)
This is one of the most adrenaline-rushing movies ever made.
This movie grossed a gigantic box office of 470.1 million dollars and had a budget of 200 million dollars. It grossed a profit of 270.1 million dollars.
*Fun fact*
Now that we have seen my favorites, it is time for my least favorite movie of all time.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
In my opinion, this is one of the most abysmal movies ever created.
This movie grossed a surprising box office of 1.004 billion dollars and had a budget of 265 million dollars. It grossed a profit of 739 million dollars.
*Fun facts* Jurassic World Dominion was nominated at the Saturn awards. Some scenes, like Owen and Claire’s cabin, were shot in Sierra, Nevada.
There you have it. I find it amazing that movies can make such massive profits at the box office. Were you surprised by any of them? And I didn’t even get into the Marvel franchise.
