Walk into any room and you are likely to see at least one Stanley cup. The Stanley cup has been around over 100 years, but gained popularity in recent months. Sales started to increase in 2019 after the Buy Guide began promoting and selling them due to their functionality. It then really took off after social media started promoting the Quencher. One post even shows a Stanley cup surviving a car fire and still having ice inside! With its new popularity, sales increased from 70 million to over 750 million.
We surveyed 55 West students to find out their opinions on this viral cup. Out of the 55 students, 36 own a Stanley. Almost half of these teens got theirs as a gift. Most only own one, but 14 own two or more. The most popular color is pink followed by blue, green, and beige. Students say that they like the tumblers because they keep water cold, the handle makes it easy to hold, there are a variety of colors, the size makes them drink more water, and they are cute. However, there are some students who expressed their disdain for the Stanleys by saying that they leak so they cannot be put in backpacks, they are overrated, and they’re overpriced. Just like many trends disappear after time, it is yet to be seen if the Stanley will hold its place as a top selling water bottle.
