The Love of the Field

Joey Brueggmann, Staff Writer

The Lincoln-Way West Varsity Football team finished a great season with a close game vs. Homewood Flossmoor! The end of game huddle was an emotional time for all our players and coaches filled with inspirational speeches and triumphant praise for their hard work this season. The friends and families of the players filled the field in a swarm of pure emotion and compassion after the loss. Proud, they were proud. Proud of all the accomplishments, all the work, effort, sweat, and tears shed for this school. These feelings bubbling up, all let out with one huddle, one game, and one hug. The memories flowing in, building up, and flowing out with the tears they shed. They played their hearts out, they led the charge, and they certainly created an amazing football culture that would never die out! The team finished the season with a record of 3-6, but despite this record, the passion of the game never left the sideline!

Throughout the season, the Warriors played every game with the Class of 2023 seniors in mind and saying goodbye to them after the final game of the season was no easy feat. The passion in the huddle and on the field was real and saying goodbye to their beloved seniors is a pain that will resonate through to next season. However, the Warriors look to a bright future in the absence of our seniors with the promising Junior class. The team hopes to bring another successful season of football to Lincoln-Way West! Many fans, including myself, look forward to a bright future and hope that the Warriors can make memories, win games, and instill a winning legacy at Lincoln-Way West!
