Some Unsolicited Advice From a Quasi-Adult

Mrs. Krippel

If you are going away to school:

1.       “The KP Rule”: Don’t go home for a month. Homesickness is not a good enough reason to miss out on a great opportunity. It will pass.

2.       Learn how to study….really study.

3.       The library is the COOLEST in College. It’s a great place to find some peace & quiet, research and study with friends and take a nap if needed.

4.       “The 50/50 Rule”: Study as much as you socialize. Find balance.

5.       GO TO CLASS! You will encode something, and you will make new friends. Plus, class is your job. Do it well.

When you start working:

1.       GO TO WORK! Employers count on you, and you count on your job. Show up!

2.       Be responsible for you; it’s your future. No one else’s.

When you want to quit:

1.       Remember why you chose this path, especially when it gets tough…and it will. Guaranteed. When you want to quit, go back to the why and move forward.

2.       You should always do something that you love. That is when it’s ok to be selfish.

3.       You will be O.K. Being an adult sucks sometimes, but it’s always worth the struggle. Always.

4.       Always attempt to be a better version of the person you were yesterday. Repeat.

5.       Cut yourself some slack, but not too much slack. Sometimes you need a break.

To close, here is a quote I lean on when times are tough: “Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between the amazing and the awful its ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That’s just living. Heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful.” –LR Knost

Good luck kiddos, you got this.
