Ten Questions with Art Teacher Ms. Johnson

  1. What do you love about teaching art?
I love that everyone is SUPPOSED to get a different answer. Every person has a different perspective and they can all be right. Each of us has something that is uniquely our own to share.
  2. Why do you think students should take an art class while in high school?
There is nothing like creating. Some students don’t even realize the skills that they have until they have tried out some art classes. No matter what career you pursue, being creative and having the ability to come up with multiple solutions is crucial. Art gives you a way to work on those skills and gives you a place to be YOU.
  3. You discover a beautiful island where you decide to build a new society. What is the first rule you put in place?
The Golden Rule is best. Treat people the way you would want to be treated.
  4. What five things would you take with you during a zombie apocalypse and why?
a long pole (to keep your distance and to climb things), a big sharp knife (protection and cutting of all kinds), duct tape (all-purpose), a big box of waterproof matches (fire is for warmth and cooking and signaling and can be a weapon), a sturdy backpack (gives you portable storage)
  5. You’re asked to cook dinner for your family and head to the store with $20. On the way, however, you stop at Starbucks, spending $4, and meet a friend to whom you owe $10. By the time you get to the store, you have $6 and ten minutes to shop. What’s for dinner?
    Pasta
  6. If humans started colonizing Mars, would you volunteer to move there? Why or why not?
No. Water is powerful and plentiful here. So much of our known life needs water, and I would miss the living stuff.
  7. Is cereal soup? Why or why not?
No. Most soups have ingredients that remain intact or are blended into a smooth consistency. Cereal turns to mush, but I would never put it in a blender.
  8. Would you rather live forever in an amusement park or a zoo?
Zoo. Always and forever. Animals are fascinating. African safari is still far and away the best trip I’ve ever been on.
  9. What is your favorite combination of colors?
Cool colors. Greens and blues feel calm and soothing.
  10. If you could have one song play every time you entered a room what would it be, and why?
“Groove is in the Heart” by  Deee-Lite
It makes me dance and smile every time I hear it.
