Homemade for the Holidays

Instead of going out and getting ice cream for this issue, I decided I would make my own! I have always loved ice cream since I was a little girl, and I always dreamed about being able to make my own ice cream and having my own ice cream shop. In the summer I bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker and have made three ice creams since then. First, I made vanilla, then peanut butter, and then recently, peppermint!

To make this recipe, we needed need ¾ cup of whole milk, ⅔ cup of sugar, a pinch of salt, 1 ½ cups of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract,  ½ cup of chocolate chips, and red food dye to make it the perfect peppermint color.

We let those ingredients mix until the sugar dissolved, and we put the mixture in the refrigerator for two hours. After the two hours were up, we poured the mixture in our Cuisinart and let it mix for twenty-five minutes. Then, we added in our chocolate chips and poured our peppermint ice cream into a Tupperware container and put it in the freezer for four hours.

Finally, we took the ice cream out of the freezer, it looked so delicious. We got two bowls and filled them high with our newest creation. The ice cream tasted amazing and had just the right amount of peppermint flavoring in it. I would rate the ice cream a 10/10, and my boyfriend, Nick, rated it a 9/10. Making ice cream is more time consuming than just buying it, but it is super fun, and I would suggest making it to just about anyone.
