The Ending of a Great Season

Nick Myers

On the first Saturday of the 2019 IHSA Football Playoffs, the Warriors of Lincoln-Way West faced off against a formidable opponent, Phillips Academy. Going into the game, the Warriors were the underdog but wouldn’t let that discourage them. The Warriors were down at half-time; they pushed for a comeback during the second half, and had a three-point lead near the end of the game. Unfortunately, the team ended up losing to Phillips in dramatic fashion, with a last-second touchdown pass, the final score being 30-24. It was a heartbreaking loss, but the Warriors didn’t give up until they were forced to stop playing.

The team was missing a key player, Senior Caleb Marconi. Marconi led the offense at running back sophomore through senior years, until he suffered a ruptured spleen. He ended his senior year with a bang though, rushing for over one-thousand yards and scoring more than ten touchdowns in just eight games. When asked about how Marconi felt about this season, he stated, “It was short lived, but I made the most out of what I had to work with.” The Warriors battled through a tough schedule, but unfortunately their season came to an end short of what they’d hoped for. We are proud of their season, and we can’t wait to see what next year brings.
