All About GSA

Jean Stachulak

Warrior Pride, Gay-Straight Alliance, GSA. Whatever you call it, it is one of the most trustworthy, fun, and safe groups here at Lincoln-Way West. The club consists LGBTQ+ community members and their allies, and is always open for even more! This is a place to feel loved and accepted by all, a judgment-free zone. It’s almost like your second family right here at school. I feel like members of the LGBTQ+ community and supporters would really enjoy spending time with us.

Our goal is simple: we want to make Lincoln-Way West a secure and comfortable environment for the LGBTQ+ community. We strive to have everybody realize that no matter who we love, what we wear, or what gender we are, we’re still human beings. We also want to make a breathable space to be open and vent emotions, no matter how heavy they can be.

At meetings, we voluntarily share whatever is on our mind. It could be asking for advice, telling a funny story, or venting. Occasionally we will do something different such as a way to get to know each other or planning an upcoming school activity. An event we plan to host this year is crafting your own bracelets during your lunch hour!

We meet twice a month; you can find out our exact meeting dates on posters around the school. They’ll also be in the announcements labeled “Warrior Pride.” Our meetings take place in the Student Success Center, in the small area where The Writing Center is. I am really looking forward to making posters to put up in the school, where all of us can share our many different stories and struggles. Who knows, maybe we can change the minds of even the most stubborn people.

We hope to see you at our next meetings!
